Congressman Andy Kim Receives Senate Endorsement From IUOE Operating Engineers Local 825

MOORESTOWN N.J. – Today, Congressman Andy Kim announced the endorsement of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 825 (“Local 825”) in his race for the United States Senate. Local 825 Operating Engineers are highly trained and experienced heavy equipment operators, mechanics, and surveyors who offer unsurpassed productivity to contractors throughout New Jersey and New York. Their 8,200 members are part of the International Union of Operating Engineers, with a total workforce of more than 400,000 throughout the United States and Canada.

“As I talk to people up and down New Jersey, and we talk about fixing our broken infrastructure, I know we wouldn’t be able to do that without operating engineers who come to work every day to fix our roads, bridges, and tunnels,” said Congressman Andy Kim. “I hope to work with IUOE in the Senate to make sure the people who are rebuilding New Jersey have the pay and benefits they deserve, and to continue delivering funding for projects and improving our infrastructure here at home.”

“Every year, election results are consequential to our members. Who we send to make policy in federal, state, county, and local government offices affects Operating Engineer work, wages, and working conditions,” said Greg Lalevee, Local 825’s business manager. “These recommended candidates have shown commitments to Operating Engineer values and we offer them our endorsement this November.”

In Congress, Rep. Kim voted to pass the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) that helped create jobs and assisted in the rebuilding of New Jersey’s infrastructure with a focus on climate change mitigation and stormweather resilience. In addition to rebuilding roads and bridges, this bill also expands access to broadband internet for people in more rural areas that had been passed over by telecom companies for too long. Included in the IIJA was Congressman Kim's Resilient Highways Act, which is helping communities strengthen their local infrastructure against the increased risks of extreme storms and flooding.

As a son of immigrants and a graduate from New Jersey public schools, Congressman Andy Kim has been proud to represent his home community in Congress. Andy is a young father of two little boys and represents a new generation of leadership stepping up to fix our broken politics. As a former national security official, Andy previously advised President Obama on counterterrorism and worked for four-star generals in Afghanistan.

Andy went on to win a congressional district that Trump won twice by defeating three consecutive self-funding republican millionaires. In his three terms in Congress, Andy has worked hard to lower costs for New Jersey families, help support small businesses through challenging times, and has battled House Republicans in the fight to restore protections for women in the aftermath of the 2022 Dobbs decision. Andy is now stepping up to run for senate to fight against corruption and restore integrity to public service.
