Congressman Andy Kim Receives Senate Endorsement From HPAE for Leadership in Standing with Healthcare Workers
MOORESTOWN N.J. – Today, Congressman Andy Kim announced the endorsement of the Health Professionals and Allied Employees (HPAE) in his race for the United States Senate. One of the fastest growing healthcare unions in New Jersey, the HPAE represents over 13,000 nurses and other healthcare professionals in hospitals, nursing homes, blood banks, and clinics. The HPAE is fighting for better working conditions for all healthcare workers, and for improved patient care and medical research. In addition to their advocacy, the HPAE is crucial to mobilizing voters in support of candidates who are committed to safe staffing in healthcare facilities. Congressman Kim has previously been endorsed by HPAE in all of his previous congressional races.
“I grew up in a healthcare family, with my Dad dedicating his life to finding a cure for cancer and my Mom spending long hours as a nurse taking care of those in our community during their most vulnerable moments,” said Congressman Andy Kim. “I’ve seen first hand how much we ask of our healthcare workers, and how often they go above and beyond to take care of our loved ones. In the Senate, I will build upon the work I have done in the House and continue pushing to ensure proper resources and support are available for these essential workers, while also working to lower costs and make healthcare more accessible for all.”
"The HPAE is excited to stand with Congressman Andy Kim, who has championed improving healthcare since 2019,” said Debbie White, President of the HPAE. “He stands with healthcare workers in the fight for safe staffing. In the Senate, Congressman Kim will be the voice advocating for workers and a better healthcare system for all.”
Since taking office in 2019, Congressman Kim has fought for better working conditions for healthcare workers. He cosponsored H.R. 2530, the Nursing Staffing Standards for Hospital Patient Safety and Quality Care Act, which would set minimum nurse-to-patient ratios for every hospital. Congressman Kim also cosponsored and voted for H.R. 1667, the Dr. Lorna Breen Health Care Provider Act, to prevent burnout and respond to the mental health needs of healthcare professionals.
In addition to these efforts, Congressman Kim is committed to lowering costs and making healthcare more accessible to all people. He voted for the Inflation Reduction Act, which finally allowed Medicare to negotiate drug prices, capped the cost of insulin at $35 per month for individuals on Medicare, and he co-authored the provision that capped out-of-pocket prescription drug expenses at $166 per month for individuals on Medicaid. Congressman Kim also introduced the Helping Seniors Afford Healthcare Act to ensure more seniors and disabled Americans qualify for Medicare and Medicaid assistance. And, Congressman Kim cosponsored and voted for the Women’s Health Protection Act, which would codify reproductive rights of women across the country.
As a son of immigrants and a graduate from New Jersey public schools, Congressman Andy Kim has been proud to represent his home community in Congress. Andy is a young father of two little boys and represents a new generation of leadership stepping up to fix our broken politics. As a former national security official, Andy previously advised President Obama on counterterrorism and worked for four-star generals in Afghanistan.
Andy went on to win a congressional district that Trump won twice by defeating three consecutive self-funding republican millionaires. In his three terms in Congress, Andy has worked hard to lower costs for New Jersey families, help support small businesses through challenging times, and has battled House Republicans in the fight to restore protections for women in the aftermath of the 2022 Dobbs decision. Andy is now stepping up to run for senate to fight against corruption and restore integrity to public service.
