Congressman Andy Kim Fires Up Grassroots Voters in Bergen County

BERGEN COUNTY N.J. – Today, Congressman Andy Kim spent the day on the ground in Bergen County, meeting with local union members, grassroots supporters, and the AAPI community as he continues his statewide effort to reach voters where they’re at ahead of the November 5th election.

Congressman Kim started his morning in Paramus where he spoke to 150 local union members before launching a Labor walk throughout the county. He was joined by AFL-CIO’s NJ State President Charlie Wowkanech, President of Bergen County Central Trades & Labor Council Mike Schneider, Manager of IBEW 164 Dan Gumble, and Chairman Paul Juliano, along with many other labor and elected leaders.

Afterwards, Congressman Kim addressed a crowd of over 100 Bergen County residents at Northern Regional High School in Old Tappan for a meet & greet. There, they discussed the struggles that seniors go through while navigating retirement on fixed incomes, gun violence, high cost of living, and the importance of voting this November. As a member of the House Gun Violence Prevention Taskforce, Andy co-sponsored the Bipartisan Background Checks Act, a landmark bill that represented the biggest advancement in gun violence prevention in more than a decade. He also voted for the Inflation Reduction Act that has provided the largest investment in clean energy in a generation, and is making healthcare more affordable for seniors, including through a provision co-authored by Kim which will cap prescription costs for those on Medicare at $2,000 a year. Andy was joined by county and local officials.

“From Cape May to Bergen, I continue to hear about costs being too high, seniors’ resources being stretched too thin, and the feeling that we are at a breaking point when it comes to gun violence in our country,” said Congressman Andy Kim. “I’m running for Senate to make sure families have proper support throughout all stages of life, and so that we can feel safe dropping our kids off at school. I was so inspired by the shared excitement and energy to get out the vote this morning in Bergen and it makes me confident we will win in November so we can get to work for New Jersey families.”

Afterwards, Congressman Kim attended the 23rd Annual Chuseok Korea-Festival, where he celebrated with local residents at Leonia’s New Overpeck Park. If elected, Andy would make history as the first ever Korean-American Senator in the country and the first AAPI Senator from the East Coast.

As a son of immigrants and a graduate from New Jersey public schools, Congressman Andy Kim has been proud to represent his home community in Congress. Andy is a young father of two little boys and represents a new generation of leadership stepping up to fix our broken politics. As a former national security official, Andy previously advised President Obama on counterterrorism and worked for four-star generals in Afghanistan.

Andy went on to win a congressional district that Trump won twice by defeating three consecutive self-funding republican millionaires. In his three terms in Congress, Andy has worked hard to lower costs for New Jersey families, help support small businesses through challenging times, and has battled House Republicans in the fight to restore protections for women in the aftermath of the 2022 Dobbs decision. Andy is now stepping up to run for senate to fight against corruption and restore integrity to public service.
