Reps. Kim and Menendez Hear From Small Businesses in Newark’s North Ward

Rep. Kim & Rep. Menendez Participate in Small Business Walking Tour of North Ward’s Bloomfield Avenue

NEWARK N.J. – This afternoon, Congressman Andy Kim and Congressman Rob Menendez were joined by North Ward Chair Samuel Gonzalez, Councilman Luis Quintana and Councilman Anibal Ramos, Essex County Sheriff candidate Amir Jones, Commercial District Services President Chris Bernardo, School Board member Josephine Garcia, and George Torres who was there on behalf of the Hispanic Law Enforcement Society, to visit small businesses in the North Ward. Together they visited a hair salon, juice bar, and two pharmacies on Bloomfield Avenue, and spoke with small business owners about their concerns and the needs of the North Ward community at large.

“Hearing from small business owners with Rob today highlighted how important it is for federal officials to work together at all levels to show up for small businesses across the state, and make sure resources are going where they are most needed to ensure places like the North Ward can continue relying on these staples of their community,” said Congressman Andy Kim. “I appreciate everyone who took their time out today to speak with us, and I look forward to a continued partnership.”

"It was great to host Andy in Newark’s dynamic North Ward to visit local businesses,” said Congressman Rob Menendez. “Meeting with residents and business owners gives us, as elected leaders, the best insight into the challenges and aspirations of our constituents. I look forward to continuing to partner with Andy as colleagues in the House - and soon as our next U.S. Senator - to bring these insights to Washington and do the people's work.”

"It was great to be able to bring Congressmen Kim and Menendez around the North Ward today, and opened up the opportunity to have real conversations with residents and businesses about what they need from their representatives," said North Ward Chair, Samuel Gonzalez. "Elected officials need to be on the ground and having these conversations to be able to make real change at the federal level, and I look forward to future visits from both leaders so we can continue delivering for the North Ward."
