As Local Summer Begins, Congressman Andy Kim Meets with Seniors, Students, and Supporters Down the Shore
MOORESTOWN N.J. – As Local Summer begins down the shore, Congressman Andy Kim spent the day in Ocean County speaking to seniors, students, and supporters to hear from them directly on the ground.
This afternoon, Congressman Kim hosted a town-hall style Q&A with seniors in Toms River where they discussed the need to cut bureaucratic red tape for public services, the lack of resources currently available, and what Andy can do in the Senate to further federal efforts to help relieve the burden for New Jersey seniors when it comes to affordability and healthcare. In Congress, Andy co-authored a provision of the Inflation Reduction Act which capped out of pocket prescription drug expenses at $2,000 a year for seniors on Medicare, and opposed Donald Trump and Republican efforts to repeal the Affordable Care Act and strip Medicare and Medicaid funding.
“As someone with aging parents, I’ve seen firsthand the challenges our seniors face in being able to afford essentials like eldercare and prescription drugs,” said Congressman Andy Kim. “Hearing directly from seniors in our community means I can be a better advocate for them in the U.S. Senate, and I look forward to taking their concerns and ideas back to Washington to further lower costs and increase access to the care they deserve.”
“Very impressed with Andy,” said Barry Agen, from Manchester. “I’m encouraged by the fact that we have an honest and honorable man representing us in Congress and in the U.S. Senate in the future. He understands seniors like me and our issues and that makes me feel hopeful.”
Afterwards, Congressman Kim joined local high school students for an ice cream social where he listened to the concerns of students about the economy and gun violence among other issues, and encouraged them to pay attention and stay engaged in politics and public service. He then traveled to Long Beach Island to spend the evening with nearly 200 people in Ship Bottom. He ended the night joining Moms Demand Action as they kicked off Election season with a virtual pep rally. As a candidate who has earned Moms Demand Action’s Gun Sense Candidate distinction in every campaign he has run, Andy will take on Republicans in the Senate to enact stronger gun violence prevention laws to make sure no parent needs to worry about their kid not coming home from school, and will work to keep our communities safe from the gun violence epidemic currently happening across the country.
As a son of immigrants and a graduate from New Jersey public schools, Congressman Andy Kim has been proud to represent his home community in Congress. Andy is a young father of two little boys and represents a new generation of leadership stepping up to fix our broken politics. As a former national security official, Andy previously advised President Obama on counterterrorism and worked for four-star generals in Afghanistan.
Andy went on to win a congressional district that Trump won twice by defeating three consecutive self-funding republican millionaires. In his three terms in Congress, Andy has worked hard to lower costs for New Jersey families, help support small businesses through challenging times, and has battled House Republicans in the fight to restore protections for women in the aftermath of the 2022 Dobbs decision. Andy is now stepping up to run for senate to fight against corruption and restore integrity to public service.
