Congressman Andy Kim Focuses on Making American Dream More Affordable and Accessible in Events Statewide
MOORESTOWN N.J. – This week, Congressman Andy Kim met with New Jerseyans from Cape May to Jersey City to hear directly from them and to discuss ways to make the American Dream more affordable and accessible to all.
“As I continue to travel the state and hear from New Jerseyans, the stories about struggling to afford basic needs or keep businesses afloat remain a real worry for people, regardless of where they live,” said Congressman Andy Kim. “I’m running for Senate so that I can work to find solutions for those working at family farms and mom-and-pop shops so that everyone, not just big corporations and the well-off and well-connected, can succeed.”
During the week, Congressman Kim visited small businesses in Camden, Montgomery, Phillipsburg, and Washington Borough. These visits, which included a soon to open Asian supermarket in Montgomery which will provide organically sourced food for their community, focused on ways Congress can better support entrepreneurs. As a former member of the House Small Business Committee, Congressman Kim authored and supported numerous bills to help small business owners access needed capital and cut unnecessary red tape.
"Small businesses in Camden, NJ, and just small businesses period need leadership that has a vision. Thank you Congressman Kim for taking the time to visit and listen to the voices of the Camden business community,” said small business owner, Rashaan Hornsby. "Leadership in our communities and state have to be intentional about creating the next generation of successful small business owners in Camden and Southern New Jersey, and today was a great step towards that."
Congressman Kim continued his focus on making the American Dream more affordable with a tour of International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) Local 825’s Training Center in Dayton, New Jersey where he toured their facility and spoke with members about the importance of unions in creating strong pathways to the middle class. Kim also visited the Ironbound Farm in Asbury where he toured the facilities and participated in a roundtable discussion about the importance of small farms in creating jobs and feeding the community. In Congress, Kim has worked with the USDA to secure grants and loans through their Rural Development Community Facilities Program, which helps farms to offset costs, upgrade equipment and expand their workforce.
"It was such an honor to have the Congressman visit the farm. As a group of family farmers, artisan producers, and retailers committed to building a regional food system, we could not have been more impressed - or excited - by his eagerness to learn more about agriculture in the Garden State,” said Charles Rosen, Founder of Ironbound Farm, Regenerative Farm and Ciderhouse. “His dedication to food security, small business, and community building will serve us well in the Senate. (And it certainly doesn't hurt that he spent a few years on an organic farm milking cows and making ice cream in his younger days!)”
Congressman Kim’s visits across the state also focused on increasing accessibility to the American Dream by discussing ways to empower and protect communities across our state. These discussions included conversations with voters in Cape May, a visit with the Domestic Abuse & Sexual Assault Crisis Center of Warren County (DASACC) where Kim learned about their Abuse Intervention Program and legal advocacy work, a roundtable event with the Morris County Democratic Women’s Caucus where he heard about the importance of protecting reproductive freedoms, and a tour of the Hudson Pride Center and an LGBTQ+ roundtable in Jersey City where he heard about the importance of standing up against attacks on LGBTQ+ populations across the country.
“We always appreciate the opportunity to share our work with the leaders in our community, and we were pleased to welcome Congressman Kim to DASACC,” said DASACC Executive Director Isela Arras. “The time he dedicated to learning about our mission showed his commitment to engaging with us. We're thankful for the chance to highlight the services we provide to Warren County and for his interest in the challenges and successes of our work.”
As a son of immigrants and a graduate from New Jersey public schools, Congressman Andy Kim has been proud to represent his home community in Congress. Andy is a young father of two little boys and represents a new generation of leadership stepping up to fix our broken politics. As a former national security official, Andy previously advised President Obama on counterterrorism and worked for four-star generals in Afghanistan.
Andy went on to win a congressional district that Trump won twice by defeating three consecutive self-funding republican millionaires. In his three terms in Congress, Andy has worked hard to lower costs for New Jersey families, help support small businesses through challenging times, and has battled House Republicans in the fight to restore protections for women in the aftermath of the 2022 Dobbs decision. Andy is now stepping up to run for senate to fight against corruption and restore integrity to public service.
