Congressman Andy Kim Receives Backing from Council for a Livable World for His National Security Experience
MOORESTOWN N.J. – Today, Congressman Andy Kim announced the endorsement of the Council for a Livable World (CLW) in his race for U.S. Senate. A nonpartisan nonprofit organization, CLW was founded by Manhattan Project scientist Leo Szilard and promotes policies to reduce and eventually eliminate nuclear weapons while working to minimize the risk of war.
“These are dangerous times with wars and conflicts escalating and dictators and authoritarian leaders grabbing power. As a former national security official, I will be a strong leader, ready on day 1 in the Senate to help our nation navigate through these complex challenges,” said Congressman Andy Kim. “I am honored that the Council for a Livable World has chosen to endorse me and work with me to make the world a safer, more secure place for future generations.”
"Council for a Livable World has proudly endorsed Congressman Andy Kim in each of his House campaigns and we are pleased to endorse him in his Senate bid because of his vast national security experience and stellar record," said former Congressman John Tierney, Executive Director of Council for a Livable World. "In the House, Congressman Kim has a perfect record on our issues this Congress, voting to retire an unnecessary and massive new nuclear warhead, prohibit funding for the unnecessary production of the plutonium pits that go inside nuclear weapons, and stop funding for the Pentagon's unbudgeted wish list items. His career of public service in the State Department, Pentagon and National Security Council makes him a leading voice in the House on critical national security issues and we are confident he will be a champion for nuclear arms control, smart Pentagon spending and a diplomacy-first foreign policy in the Senate."
Congressman Kim has been a leader in Congress on national security and foreign policy, serving on the House Armed Services and House Foreign Affairs Committees, as well as the House Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the U.S. and the Chinese Communist Party. He has also served as a co-chair of the House Democratic Caucus National Security Task Force.
During his time in Congress, Kim has been a champion for denuclearization, focusing much of his efforts on decreasing nuclear tension on the Korean Peninsula. Most recently he introduced a resolution that calls for close coordination to achieve the denuclearization of North Korea. Earlier in his tenure in Congress, Andy sent a letter to the Trump administration urging them not to block South Korea's efforts to engage in cross-border business ventures that were an attempt to build trust and facilitate progress towards denuclearization of the peninsula.
First elected to Congress in 2018 at the age of 36, three-term Congressman Andy Kim is one of the younger members to serve in Congress and is the first Asian American elected to federal office from New Jersey. In 2018 and 2020, Andy defeated two self-funding millionaires in a district carried by former President Trump, going on to vote to impeach Trump twice throughout his presidency. In 2022, Kim defeated his third self-funding millionaire opponent by 12 points
In his three terms in Congress, Andy has worked hard to lower costs for New Jersey families and help support small businesses through challenging times. Andy has also been a leading champion in fighting against corruption in our broken politics.
